Working principle of wheeled excavator traveling

Release Date:11.11.2023

The wheeled excavator is an excavator widely used in fields such as construction engineering and road maintenance. Its traveling working principle is mainly based on a combination of hydraulic transmission and mechanical transmission. The following will introduce in detail the working principle of the wheeled excavator:

1. Traveling mechanism

The traveling mechanism of a wheeled excavator mainly includes driving wheels, guide wheels, support wheels, walking frames and suspension devices. Among them, the driving wheel and the guide wheel are installed on the walking frame through bearings, the support wheel is connected to the excavator through a suspension device, and the other end of the walking frame is connected to the excavator through a pin.

2. Hydraulic transmission system

The hydraulic transmission system of a wheeled excavator is mainly composed of a hydraulic pump, a hydraulic motor, a hydraulic pipeline and a control system. The hydraulic pump converts the engine's power into hydraulic energy, which is sent to the hydraulic motor through the hydraulic pipeline. The hydraulic motor then converts the hydraulic energy into mechanical energy to drive the running mechanism.

3. Working principle

Straight line walking: When the hydraulic motor is running, the driving wheel and guide wheel are installed on the walking frame through bearings, the support wheel is connected to the excavator through the suspension device, and the other end of the walking frame is connected to the excavator through a pin. Under the control of the hydraulic pipeline, the rotation speed and direction of the driving wheel and guide wheel can be changed, thereby realizing the straight line walking of the excavator.

Curve walking: When the excavator needs to walk in a curve, the operator can control the pressure and flow of the hydraulic pipeline to change the speed and direction of the driving wheel and guide wheel, thereby realizing the curve walking of the excavator.

Support walking: When the excavator needs to support walking, the operator can control the oil cylinder of the suspension device to raise and lower the support wheels so that the excavator can achieve supported walking.

Steering mechanism: The steering mechanism of an excavator generally uses hydraulic power steering or electro-hydraulic power steering. The steering of the excavator is achieved by changing the hydraulic pressure and flow of the steering mechanism.

Braking system: The braking system of an excavator generally uses hydraulic braking or electro-hydraulic braking. The excavator is braked by controlling the hydraulic pressure and flow of the braking system.

4. Maintenance

In order to ensure the normal operation of the wheeled excavator, regular maintenance is required, including checking whether the bearings of the driving wheel, guide wheel, and support wheel are worn or damaged, checking whether the walking frame and suspension device are deformed or damaged, and checking the hydraulic pipes. Check whether the road is leaking or blocked, etc. In addition, wearing parts such as hydraulic oil and filters need to be replaced regularly to ensure the normal operation of the hydraulic system.

5. Common faults and troubleshooting methods

During the walking operation of the wheeled excavator, some common faults may occur, such as abnormal rotation speed of the driving wheel or guide wheel, deviation of the excavator when walking, failure of the braking system, etc. For these faults, it is necessary to analyze the causes and take corresponding troubleshooting methods, such as replacing damaged bearings, adjusting the pressure and flow of hydraulic pipelines, replacing parts of the braking system, etc.

To sum up, the walking working principle of the wheeled excavator is mainly based on the combination of hydraulic transmission and mechanical transmission. By changing the speed and direction of the driving wheel and guide wheel, the excavator can achieve straight walking, curve walking and support walking. In order to ensure the normal operation of walking work, regular maintenance and troubleshooting are required.
